Just about the most unlikely crossover *ever*.

I've only just started reading it, but the writer is very good and it's wonderful.

Time Shall Not Mend by AJ Hall (aka ajhalluk.)

It's part of a series of HP slash stories (note - in this series, she has not been more explicit than a kiss between the established couple) featuring the unlikely pairing of Draco and Neville.

Even more unlikely is that this particular entry is a crossover with Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosiverse. Starring Ekaterin. And that, despite the desparate times and the fact that one is purely magic and the other is hard sf, it seems to be working thus far.

You absolutely have to know the LMB universe to enjoy this, but I don't think you need to be a slash fan at all.

Comments

I read it. It was enjoyable, but I think the less you know about LMB the better. Er, you will see towards the end.

Either that or AJ Hall and I haven't read the same books. She writes well, but her take on the vorkosiverse is unique.

Quite possible, but right now I'm in in-joke heaven.

And, my goodness. If Alys and her Narcissa ever met...

Or either the Profesora or Cordelia meets Emily.

And Draco and By. And...veritaserum. And.

However, I'll be on the lookout for the ending. Right now, I'm just enjoying..

Hm.

I've re-read LOP a few times, and really enjoyed it. I read Dissipation and Despair, and quite liked it, although I felt it got a bit topheavy with the highbrow English at points. (i confess, I'm thoroughly lowbrow, so that may be inconsequential)

I hated TSNM. It started off well, but I don't care for her interpretations of the characters. Although, to be fair, I don't like any Bujold fanfic. Personal squick, I suppose.

(eta: although it's possibly as much that i have an easier time with a totally au likable draco than an au unlikable miles)

I do think A.J. Hall is a talented and enjoyable writer, however, who obviously puts a lot of hard work into her stories.

Meh. FWIW & YMMV etc etc.

:)

I've read and enjoyed all of AJ Hall's works, and this is one of my favourites; the improbable cross-over worked well for me, and the injokes were the icing! I can see where it might not be to everyone's taste, but I rec her to anyone who stands still.

I found the most recent story (Dissipation & Despair) has a bit more explicit sexuality in Draco/Neville's relationship, but it's still restrained.

I adore chapter 1 of TSNM. I'm less thrilled with the rest of the story. Let me know when you finish reading it, I'd love to hear what you think about it.

Thank you! Shiny! Reading it!
